Insurance companies may require homeowners to replace their shingle roof every 15 years, or so. But metal roofs can last 20-30 years or more with proper maintenance. Finally, a light-colored metal is going to reflect sunlight while dark shingles absorb and hold heat. So, metal roofs can help lower the temperature in the house, decreasing the cost of cooling in the summer.
